Jon received his BA in Russian Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his MA in International Studies from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.  After a brief stint with UNCTAD in Geneva, he has spent the bulk of his career in the private sector as an energy trader based in Europe and Asia with the Astra Oil Group and with Goldman Sachs.  Through his worldwide experience in energy and mineral markets, Jon has developed a deep knowledge of how complex markets function. He has supervised a worldwide energy trading team including the oversight of logistics and risk management and the negotiation of long-term contracts with national and integrated oil companies as well as with end-users such as the airlines and power companies.

Jon serves on a number of local boards including Santa Fe Prep School and Santa Fe New Music and is an oboist with the Santa Fe Community Orchestra.  He is also an active member of a search and rescue team.  He retains a lifelong passion for global policy issues.
